Strong Outing From Mustangs At Divisionals

Oakdale High School track and field teams headed to Golden Valley High School in Merced on Tuesday and Thursday to compete in the 2019 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Divisionals. When it was all over, a dozen Mustang athletes punched their tickets for the Masters at Davis Senior High School. The top six in each event qualified for Masters.

In the boys 4x100 meter race A.J. Martinez, Zeke Saffar, Cameron Burke and Kevin Camelin placed fourth in the event with a time of 43.47, which was the fastest this season for the team. Burke also placed second overall in the boys 400 meter dash with a time of 49.68, less than a second out of first place. Burke’s busy day also saw the senior place third in the 300 meter hurdles event at 40.10. Saffar placed fourth overall in the boys 100 meter dash. Saffar finished the race at 11.26. Ben Chappell placed sixth overall in the boys shot put with a qualifying throw of 45-10. Chappell also qualified for discus. Justin Carlos and Dean Dodge both advanced in boys pole vault.

Freshman Haleigh Humble placed third overall in the girls 3200 meter race. Her time of 11:07.27 broke the school record in the event. Kyndall Green placed fourth overall in the girls pole vault when she cleared 10 feet-3 inches.  Emma Harper placed second overall in the girls discus at 136-09. Taking third in the event was Valerie Osborne with a throw of 121-10. Both Harper and Osborne advanced in shot put along with Angelica Lowry.

Masters will be held May 17 and May 18.
