It was a week of ups and downs for the Oakdale High School varsity girls basketball team this past week. The Lady Mustangs (15-9, 3-6) split their matches as they fell to Manteca but rebounded with a win over Weston Ranch.

The girls opened the week on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at home against Manteca (16-6, 6-2). The visiting Lady Buffaloes defeated Oakdale 66-57. In the loss three Lady Mustangs scored in double digits. Aidyn Hill paced the team with 18 points on the night. Halena Hill scored 14 and Maddy Jones added a dozen. Despite the trio of double digit scorers, the game went in the books as the third consecutive loss for the varsity girls.

Oakdale would snap that streak when they defeated Weston Ranch (11-11, 2-6) in Stockton by a 54-46 final on Thursday, Jan. 30. This would be the second time Oakdale defeated the Cougars as they beat Weston Ranch with a nearly identical score of 56-46 on Jan. 16.

“We had a balanced attack against Weston Ranch,” said head coach Julie Ford. “Every player scored, contributed and starred in her role. It was a great team win.”

In the road victory, Aidyn Hill scored 11 and Haylee Campbell added 10. A total of seven Lady Mustangs scored in the win.

There are just three Valley Oak League games remaining in the Lady Mustangs season and they will host all three contests. Thursday, Feb. 6 the girls will take on Sierra (13-11, 2-7). Tuesday night, Feb. 11 the Kimball Jaguars (20-5, 8-1) come to town. The Lady Mustangs wrap up the 2019-2020 campaign with a showdown against Central Catholic (6-10, 1-7) on Feb. 13. This will be Senior Night 2020 and the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Oakdale also has a non-league game on its schedule, a Feb. 8 game on the home court against Tracy with a 6 p.m. tip off.
