This past weekend the Oakdale High School Lady Mustang varsity softball team traveled to Elk Grove for the Franklin Tournament.

On Friday the girls battled Del Oro in the opening round. Although Oakdale had five hits in the game, the two teams played to a scoreless draw. Rylie Goodridge went 2-for-2 with a double. Cortney Koelmans started the game for Oakdale in the circle, giving up no hits while striking out four.

“Cortney pitched a great game against a good lineup;” said Oakdale head coach Larry Loger.

In the team’s second game of the morning Oakdale defeated Reed of Reno 5-1. Pitching a complete game for Oakdale was Mariyn Waterman. She went seven innings giving up three hits and notching six strikeouts. Offensively Lexi Webb went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Goodridge had two RBI.

Later that day the team defeated Righetti 9-1. Amber Robinson had a triple and two RBI and Alexa Aguilar had a double and two RBI to help carry the team to victory. In the circle was Lexi Webb, who had seven strikeouts and gave up one hit.

“Everyone contributed to the victory. Big hits from Robinson and Aguilar helped and our defense has been great behind our pitching,” Loger added.

Saturday the team capped off the tournament with a 13-2 victory over Rialto. Webb not only earned the win in the circle but also went 4-for-4, hitting for the cycle. Webb doubled in the first, tripled in the second, hit a home run in third and singled in the fifth. She finished with six RBI on the day. As a team Oakdale had 15 hits on the day, Jazz Velasquez had three hits and scored two runs in the win.

“The girls were very focused in some cold windy weather. We played our usual defense all tournament long,” said Loger. “They did a great job and our pitchers can count on them if we got in a jam.”

On Tuesday, March 12 the girls hosted Patterson following The Leader’s press time. This are scheduled to travel to Tracy on Wednesday, March 13 and host Merced on Friday, March 15.
