As the Valley Oak League season approaches this week, Oakdale High School boys soccer squads took the field this past week in non-conference games.

The results for the varsity boys were not kind to the Mustangs as they fell to both Gregori and Franklin. On Tuesday, Dec. 4 the boys traveled to Modesto to take on Gregori and were doubled up by the Jaguars 4-2. Oakdale gave up three first half goals and could not make up ground in the second half. Alexis Aguilar and Dayne Sturtevant each had goals for the Mustangs in the losing effort and senior Eric Anaya had an assist.

Things did not go well for the varsity Mustangs at Stockton against Franklin on Thursday when they fell to the Yellowjackets 2-1. The boys went into halftime down 1-0 and Sturtevant scored the team’s lone goal on an assist from Anaya in the second half.

Oakdale was scheduled to open up the 2018-19 Valley Oak League campaign on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at home against Manteca. The league opener took place following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale will go on the road for a two game trip beginning with East Union on Thursday, Dec. 13 with a start time of 5:45 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 18 the team will head to Tracy to take on Kimball with a start time of 5:45 p.m. Last season Oakdale finished third in the Valley Oak League with an 8-4-2 mark and compiled an overall record of 12-10-4.

For the junior varsity team it was a pair of shutout losses this past week, as they were blanked by Gregori 5-0 and then Franklin 7-0. The team looks to turn things around when they begin league play. Much like the varsity team, the boys opened league play on Tuesday, Dec. 11. The junior varsity team has the same schedule as the varsity except play their games beginning at 4 p.m.
