A tremendous defensive performance from Oakdale High’s varsity football team was enough to seal a thrilling 22-9 victory over Vista del Lago in the championship game of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs on Friday at Lincoln High in Stockton.
The Mustangs executed a final offensive drive into enemy territory to keep possession away from the Eagles of Folsom in the waning moments of the game. Their last first down enabled the 13-1 champions of the Valley Oak League to run the final seconds off the clock and erupt into title celebration.
The win was made possible by four Mustang interceptions, a blocked punt and a pair of touchdown passes as Vista rallied to limit Oakdale’s rushing game.
