Oakdale’s T.L. Davis and Fair Oaks was the home of the 2014 Oakdale Baseball Association (OBA) All-Star Tournament. With the city welcoming teams from other local area’s featuring travel teams, the four-day event began on Thursday, June 5 and completed on Father’s Day, June 15.

“It was a great success. All the kids have improved throughout the season. Very proud of all the kids who made the teams,” shared Paul Westberg, the OBA Tournament’s Coordinator. “We had a large turnout and that’s important for our program and for the support of the kids. All and all, it was a great tournament.”

OBA President, David Jablonski also shared his thoughts on the tournament.

“Anytime you can kids having fun, playing baseball and involved in the community the way we did, it is a success. We want to thank all the volunteers who helped out, not just for the tournament, but for those who helped make our regular season a success as well.”

The All- Stars were made up of teams that included four teams in which each team played a total of four games each. Many of the teams found success, including Frank Dutra’s team of 12 year olds who split their four games over the weekend.

“Altogether the boys had a lot of fun. The boys took on all challenges and played well. Our only two losses came from teams that had more playing experience (travel teams) but the boys played outstanding the whole weekend,” said Dutra about his team’s efforts.

Although OBA’s regular season is over, they will also be hosting the district tournament at Fair Oaks baseball field. The district tournament will be a double elimination tournament that will begin on Wednesday, June 18 when the 11 year olds compete. On Saturday, June 21 the 12 year olds will play in a double elimination format as well.

“We are excited to host the distract tournament this season. Looking forward to another great turnout like we had for All-Stars,” added Coach Dutra.

OBA is a non-profit youth sports program that allows kids from the ages of 5-15 to play baseball for the city of Oakdale.
