Oakdale Soccer Girls Earn VOL Road Win

varsity girls traveled to Stockton to take on Weston Ranch in VOL play on Friday, Jan. 4. Oakdale (5-6-1, 1-3-0) took on the Cougars (1-12-0, 0-4) where Oakdale steamrolled their way to a 9-0 road win, their first in Valley Oak League action. A five goal first half set the tone for the visitors.

Eight Oakdale players found the net during the nine goal outburst. Junior Emily Takaki scored two goals, while Lindsey Lumm, Brianna Montoya, Hannah Guthrie, Payton Bohannon, Kendra Branch, Marquel Besson and Krissy Lolonis each had one goal. In the net for Oakdale was Victoria Rojas.

“The girls all played great, and did their individual jobs,” said head coach Grace Fernandes. “We capitalized on our scoring opportunities and the team had fun.”

The road game was the team’s lone match of the week but on Monday, Jan. 7 the girls hosted Kimball (4-7-1, 1-3-0) following The Leader’s press time.

Oakdale is in the midst of a four game homestand where they will also host Central Catholic (1-8-1, 1-2-1); Manteca (5-5-3, 2-1-1) and East Union (10-1-1, 4-0). On Wednesday, Jan. 16 the girls will have Senior Night 2019 when they honor their 11 seniors.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

Oakdale’s JV girls won their second consecutive VOL match when they defeated Weston Ranch 9-0. Oakdale led 4-0 in the first half and added five more in the second for the convincing road win. Multiple goals by Giselle Juarez and Lydia Stueve helped power Oakdale. Megan Keater, Jordan Elting, Mikayla Notaro and Julie Overton each scored for Oakdale, and Weston Ranch added an own goal against themselves.

“The girls are playing with confidence and playing as a team,” said head coach Joey Micheletti.

Oakdale hosted Kimball on Monday, Jan. 7 following The Leader’s press time.
