Varsity, JV Softball Girls Take Road Win At Kimball

The Lady Mustangs opened their Valley Oak League championship quest with a 5-2 road win over Kimball. In their lone game of the week, Oakdale’s varsity girls defeated the Jaguars using the long ball. Grace Green, Brittany Bye and Riley Goodridge all connected on home runs to help power the Lady Mustangs.

After being tied at one each after two innings, Oakdale tagged on unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth inning and finished the game with two runs in the seventh. In the circle for Oakdale was Lexi Webb. She improved to 8-0 on the season with another quality start. Webb pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and gave up four hits.

“We are off to a good start. Some big games ahead with Manteca, Sierra and East Union coming up in league as well as the Nor Cal Tournament where we will meet some of the top teams in our area,” said head coach Larry Loger.

Oakdale was scheduled to play Weston Ranch at home on Friday but it was postponed for a later date. On Monday, March 26 the girls headed to Manteca to take on the Buffaloes following The Leader’s press time. Wednesday, March 28 the girls will host Lathrop in the home opener of the season with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

Oakdale’s junior varsity team defeated Kimball on the road 4-0 in the league opener. Oakdale had seven hits in the game with two coming off the bat of freshman Alicia Platt. Alexa Aguilar, Amber Robinson, Ashley Martin and Cortney Koelmans each had an RBI in the game. Koelmans also got the win as she pitched seven scoreless innings. She struck out nine and only gave up two hits in the complete game victory.
