Varsity Hoop Girls Split League Games

The Oakdale girls varsity basketball team opened up league action this past week and went 1-1. Both games were on the road, the varsity Lady Mustangs having won the Valley Oak League opener against Sierra 46-39 but then falling to Kimball 61-29 two days later.

Sophomore Zoe Gillen led the way for Oakdale against Sierra as the guard went 11-for-18 from the floor scoring a game high 23 points. She pulled down 21 rebounds in the win. In the loss to Kimball, Oakdale’s Sarah Bohrer scored 10 points for the varsity team.  Oakdale now has a record of 11-4 and are 1-1 in the Valley Oak League. Currently the Lady Mustangs are in fifth place.

They will host their next two games as Oakdale welcomes in East Union (11-3, 1-1) tonight, Wednesday Jan. 11 and Weston Ranch (6-6, 0-2) on Friday night, Jan. 13. Both games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

The junior varsity girls won both of their Valley Oak League games this past week, knocking off Sierra 32-26 and Kimball 40-27. Hallie Morton scored 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Oakdale against Sierra. In the same game, Carley Maaske added 11 points and seven steals, while Caroline Hamilton added 11 rebounds and five assists.

Against Kimball, Oakdale was limited to six players but still managed to tame the Jaguars. Morton scored 10 points in the win, as Hamilton and Maaske each scored nine points. Newly brought up freshman Kayden Leagan scored six points in her junior varsity debut.

 

FRESHMEN

Oakdale’s youngest girl’s squad split league play on the road this week. Oakdale knocked off Sierra 42-39 but were roughed up by Kimball 44-11.
