Trio Of Oakdale Wrestlers Crowned Rumble Champs

Ten Mustang wrestlers traveled to Bakersfield this weekend to compete at the prestigious Rumble For The Rig tournament. Oakdale’s Ricky Torres (140), Abel Garcia (172) and Colbey Harlan (184) went undefeated on the day and earned championship honors. Harlan was named Outstanding Wrestler in the tournament for his efforts.

The Mustangs also had a trio of second place finishers on the day as Dustin Chavez (128), Gabe Martinez (162) and Luis Ayala (197) all advanced to the finals.

Jake Abeyta (128) and Cody Williams (134) each finished in fourth place for the Mustangs and Cody Golding (172) placed seventh on the day. Justin Jericoff (162) finished the day 1-2.

With 20 high schools competing in the tournament throughout the state, the Mustangs scored a total of 106 team points to finish second overall, two points behind Selma who is currently ranked sixth in the state. Oakdale is currently ranked ninth in the state.

This coming Saturday, Oakdale will host the 41st annual James Riddle Invitational at Oakdale High School. The first round is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with 25 schools participating.
