Tennis Team Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive

After being blanked by Manteca with identical 9-0 scores on both Tuesday and Wednesday, the Mustang boys tennis team answered with a 7-2 road win over Sierra. Taking four of six singles matches and sweeping Sierra in doubles, the Mustang boys remain in playoff contention.

Oakdale’s number one singles Spencer Keyser bounced back from a first set loss (5-7) to win two straight sets (6-2, 6-0) for the win. Number two Zack Miller (6-4, 6-2); three Devin Odom (6-1, 6-3) and fifth ranked Branson Knowles (6-2, 6-1) each won in straight sets.

Oakdale’s doubles teams continue to impress this season as all three won in straight sets to secure the Mustangs road win. Daniel Lubeck and Daniel Davis proved why they are the team’s number one ranked doubles duo after blanking the Wolves’ Tyler Holmes and Charles Wichert 6-0, 6-0. Oakdale’s Tyler Ross and Dustin Hoy also made short work of their opponents in their match, winning 6-3, 6-0. Isaiah Canchola and Dimitri Lolomis also won 6-4, 6-1 to cap off the day.

Oakdale travels to the Sportsmen of Stanislaus (SOS) Club on Wednesday, April 13 to take on Central Catholic and will host Lathrop on Friday, April 15 in the regular season finale. Both contests are scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
