Tennis Girls Serve Up Mixed Results

Down to the wire in Valley Oak League action, the Oakdale Mustangs girls tennis spilt their matches this past week. Oakdale defeated Lathrop 9-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 10 but fell to Central Catholic 7-2 two days later.

In their home win against the Spartans everyone won in straight sets. In doubles action it was the first win in their last three tries in VOL play. The team of Shannen Yang and Cailie Rariden won 6-3, 6-2 over their counterparts. Paige Morgan and Savannah Gustafson made short work of their opposition winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Megan Pierson and Allison Koelmans were also victorious 6-2, 6-2.

In singles action Kendra Branch won her match 6-1, 6-1 and was also victorious against Erika Saldivar of Central Catholic 6-2, 6-2. Tayla Barry was also victorious in both of her matches this week, defeating Darlene Hoang of Lathrop 6-2, 6-4 and Suzanne Manseau of Central Catholic 7-6, 6-0.

Lijian Bacud won her match on Tuesday 7-6, 6-2. In a thrilling tie breaker, Mackenzie Brown defeated Leslie Barraza 6-3, 6-2 (10-5) on Tuesday. Tayla Barry also walked off the court a winner on Tuesday with her 6-2, 6-3 home win.

The girls traveled to Manteca on Tuesday, Oct. 17 to take on Sierra following The Leader’s deadline.

Oakdale’s final game of the regular season is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 19 when they host Manteca at 3:30 p.m. The Valley Oak League Singles Tournament will be hosted at Oakdale on Tuesday, Oct. 24 beginning at 9 a.m. and the doubles tournament will be held at Oakdale on Thursday, Oct. 26 also scheduled for 9 a.m.
