Soccer Girls Blow Out Franklin In Preseason

In their only match of the week the Oakdale varsity Lady Mustangs dismissed visiting Franklin 7-1 on the soccer field. Oakdale used a big offensive first half to pull away from the Yellowjackets. Oakdale (7-2-2) scored five first half goals in the contest.

Senior forward Madison Feuerstein scored three goals and added an assist for the Lady Mustangs. During the preseason, Feuerstein has accumulated 24 total points on 10 goals and four assists in 11 games.

“The girls are finding a way to get me the ball, it’s not anything that I am doing alone, the girls are giving great assists,” Feuerstein said.

Fellow senior forwards Breanna Garza and Megan Burke also had big offensive performances scoring two goals each. Along with her two goals, Garza added an assist. The Lady Mustangs got help from their underclassmen, providing some assists. Senior goalkeeper Melissa Ibarra was in between the posts the entire game, gathering four saves for Oakdale.

The victory completed Oakdale’s non-league play for 2016. Oakdale began Valley Oak League action on Monday, March 21 at Kimball, past press time for The Leader.

The Lady Mustangs open the season on a three game road trip that includes Kimball, Weston Ranch and Lathrop before returning home for two games against Sierra on Wednesday, March 30 and Manteca on Monday, April 4. All games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

 

Junior Varsity

Freshman forward Savannah Derby provided two first half goals for Oakdale in the team’s 2-1 home win over Franklin. Maddy Freitas and Macy Robinson each had an assist in the Monday, March 14 evening showdown. This was Oakdale’s only match of the week and it concluded the 2016 non-league schedule where Oakdale’s JV girls finished 4-4-2. Oakdale traveled to Kimball to open the regular season on Monday, March 21 following The Leader’s press time.
