Oakdale Takes Second At Bakersfield Rumble

The fifth annual Rumble for the Rig was held at Bakersfield High School this past weekend. Oakdale placed second overall in the tournament with a total of 117 points, 14 points behind host Bakersfield for first place. There were 19 teams from the state participating in the tournament. Oakdale was well represented in the tournament and had four first place finishers and three second place finishers.

Taking first place were freshman Henry Porter (126), Jake Ryan (152), Cody Golding (182) and Colbey Harlan (195). Second place honors went to Brandon Abell (106), Clayton Basher (113) and Gabe Martinez (170) in their respective brackets.

Of the Mustang champions at the event, Porter won his matches via a second period pin, a first period pin, major decision 10-2 and defeated his opponent 9-2 in the finals. Jake Ryan earned the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler Award. On his way to the top honors, Ryan won his matches 10-2, second period pin, 3-1 and 4-2. Golding won via a first period pin, second period pin, first period pin and completed his night with his fourth pin fall of the competition in the finals. Harlan claimed first place by two pins and an 11-1 major decision following a first round bye.

Also making the trip down to Southern California were Dustin Chavez (132), Ricky Torres (145) and Dakota McNeil (170). Chavez and Torres each placed fourth.

Coming up this Saturday, Dec. 9, the Mustangs will host the 42nd James Riddle Invitational with wrestling scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

Sunday features the seventh annual Oakdale Jr. Classic.
