Spring is nearly upon us and Oakdale swimming looks to make a splash in 2017. Oakdale traveled to Modesto on Saturday, Feb. 25 to compete in the Thomas Downey Invitational.

Caden Nord swam in a pair of events and earned first in 50 Freestyle and placed third in the 00 Freestyle. Teammate Jackson Metcalfe swam in both of those events as well and placed second in the 50 Freestyle and fifth in the 100 Freestyle. Younger members of the team showed their talents in the first meet of the season, as freshman Ethan Perry placed seventh in the 100 Breaststroke and Zach Hill placed tenth in the 100 Breaststroke.

The Lady Mustangs made an early season impression at Downey over the weekend as well. Juliette Leibenson placed fourth in the 100 Breaststroke, while Natalie Thompson finished sixth in the 100 Breaststroke event. Sophomore Kassidy Houck earned a pair of top 10 finishes in her events as she placed seventh in the 100 Backstroke and eighth in the 200 IM.

This weekend Oakdale’s varsity boys and girls head north for the Saint Mary’s Relays at Saint Mary’s. Swimming is set for a 9 a.m. start.

Oakdale will then host their annual March Madness Invite on Saturday, March 11 with swimming scheduled for 9 a.m.
