The Oakdale Mustangs boys golf team turned in an impressive performance at the 2016 VOL Championship Tournament. The Mustangs, along with seven other teams in the Valley Oak League, traveled to Copperopolis for 18 holes at Saddle Creek Golf Course.
Oakdale finished in third place, shooting 435 on the day. Oakdale’s Calvin Reed finished the day tied for fifth at 78, and teammate David Myrtakis finished tied for sixth one stroke behind Reed with a 79 stroke day. Both Reed and Myrtakis were named to the All-League team for their efforts throughout the season. They were recognized by the seven other coaches in the league to earn the honors. This is the second time for Myrtakis on the list and the first for Reed.
Rounding out the Mustangs day were 15th place Tristian Jaramillo (89); 19th place finisher Gregory Wikoff (93); three strokes back and finishing in 20th was Zackary Tamburrino and Logan Black finished 22nd with a score of 98 to cap off the day for the Mustangs.
Oakdale hit the links on Monday, May 9 for the CIF Division III Playoffs, following The Leader’s press time. Home course advantage was in the Mustangs favor as Oakdale Golf and Country Club was the host site for the event. Look for full results in the May 18 edition.
