It was over 100 degrees in Oakdale on Saturday, June 17 and the Oakdale Aquatics Masters cooled off when the team hosted a five city meet in Oakdale. Teams from Lodi, Manteca, Tracy and Sonora competed against Oakdale in the first meet of the season.

The meet had a friendly atmosphere to it as it was a family event where husbands, wives, fathers and sons, and mothers and daughters teamed up against each other. Oakdale was represented by Ray and Joseph Jackson, Diana Walker, Kaylee Sousa, Ed and Gina Mageean, and Alan and Savannah Stender. The age ranges for the meet were from 19- to 80-years-old and several events were held throughout the day.

Coach Ed Mageean noted that this was a great meet for new masters.

“No one wants to be embarrassed in front of others. We organized the meet so it was fun and low-pressure competition for the beginner master swimmer to the higher-level national class master,” Mageean said. “Oakdale Aquatics plans on making this an annual event.”

Notable performances by Oakdale swimmers were Diana Walker who captured four first place finishes, Gina Mageean with two first place finishes, Kaylee Sousa with four first place finishes and Savannah Stender, three first place finishes.
