Girls Hoops Program Starts Season Strong

Three games, three wins for the Oakdale varsity girls basketball team. On Tuesday, Nov. 29 the girls won their home game against Grace Davis 40-39. Leading the way was Sarah Bohrer with 11 points. Also scoring double digits was Zoe Gillen, who scored 10 points. Senior Maddy Brewer added nine points. The following night, Oakdale defeated Tokay 63-18. Gillen scored a game high 20 points in the home win. Grace Higle added 15 points for the Lady Mustangs while Brewer scored nine. The Lady Mustangs finished the week with another home blowout win on Friday night. The Lady Mustangs made short work of Delhi 59-13. For the second straight game Gillen scored 20 points to lead all scorers. Angie Lowry scored 11 in the win and Higle tossed in 10. The Lady Mustangs traveled to Riverbank on Tuesday, Dec. 6 to take on the Bruins, following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale’s next game will be at Hilmar on Tuesday, Dec. 13 and the team returns home for a trio of games starting on Thursday, Dec. 15 against Ripon Christian. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The junior varsity girls went 2-0 this week with wins over Delhi 47-7 and a 54-32 win over Patterson. In the 40-point rout, Oakdale’s Hallie Morton finished with a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Alyssa Cogburn had nine points and Caroline Hamilton added 14 rebounds. On the defensive side Kendra Branch and Madelyn Ruthman combined for a dozen steals. On Saturday the girls traveled to Patterson to take on the Tigers, where Angelica Lowry scored 20 points in the win. Hamilton had 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Lady Mustangs. Morton scored 11 points and Branch added seven steals. Oakdale traveled to Riverbank on Tuesday following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale returns to the home court on Thursday, Dec. 15 against Ripon Christian. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The frosh girls were in action this past week as Oakdale hosted Davis on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The girls fell 33-24 in the non-league contest. No stats were reported by press time. The girls traveled to West High School in Tracy on Tuesday, Dec. 6 following press time. Oakdale continues their road trip this week when they take on Waterford at Waterford High School on Friday night Dec. 9. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Oakdale returns home for a trio of games beginning on Thursday, Dec. 15 when they welcome Pacheco. Tipoff for the home game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
