Oakdale High’s freshman football team got the ball rolling with a 21-20 victory over Turlock on Friday, setting the table for thrilling games across all three levels.

The junior varsity team rallied behind a Ben Solario rushing touchdown with 7:51 to play to force a 13-13 tie, but surrendered a 60-yard Turlock touchdown scamper with only 30 seconds left in the game. Solario also scored on a trap play from 60 yards out in the competitive affair. Turlock won, 21-13.

“I thought we played well,” Oakdale coach Matt Miranda said. “We came out a little slow in the first half, but we came out and had a good second half.

“That’s all we can ask for. Start over and get after it.”

Miranda also recognized the JV Mustang offensive line, specifically guards Ryan Raham and Zac Cordoza. He said runners like Solario and Robert Bagley did well behind the line.
