If there is a pool somewhere, Savannah Stender is probably swimming in it. If there is a goal somewhere near that pool, Stender is probably scoring on it.

Oakdale High’s prolific goal scorer and water polo standout leads the varsity girls program on the cusp of an undefeated season in the new-look Valley Foothill League. She scored four goals against a tough Turlock High program last week, leading the Lady Mustangs to a 7-5 victory against one of the better Division I squads in the area. Earlier in the week, Stender’s four scores led to an 11-1 thrashing of Kimball. Stender, one of the most accomplished and seasoned prep and competitive travel polo players in Oakdale history, earns an Athlete of the Week nod for her efforts in the pool last week. Her scores should pave the way for Oakdale to have an interesting run into the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs this season.
