All Stars Slated For Looming Competition

Recent Oakdale High graduates have another chance to extend the legacy of their prep careers before leaving high school memories in their dust.

It will require dusting off a few jerseys.

A collection of baseball, softball and football alumnus from the Class of 2013 have been tabbed with prestigious honors to represent OHS and the Cowboy Capital of the World on upcoming stages of competition.

The festivities begin with the Modesto Sunrise Rotary 24th Annual Stanislaus County High School All Star Baseball Game on Saturday, June 8, at John Thurman Field.

Ericksen Dickens, Eddie Machado, Nik Garza and Nick Ippolito will don Oakdale colors to represent the Mustangs just 12 days after claiming a fourth straight Sac-Joaquin Section title. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start and represents 22 different teams in an East vs. West battle with 43 student athletes involved.

In ensuing action, Oakdale’s Hondo Arpoika, Miko Arpoika and Bastian Jimenez have been honored with selections to participate in the 40th Annual Lions Club All Star Football game at Modesto Junior College on June 15 (7 p.m.). The players in this reputed contest are gathered from as far north as Stockton and extend south to the farthest reaches of the Sac Joaquin Section.

The Arpoika brothers, along with Spencer Thomas and Marcus Northcutt, will also participate in the North vs. South All Star Rotary football game on June 28 at Golden Valley High in Merced. This game features the top football talent from 27 SJS schools, pitted against stiff opposition from 27 Central Section programs.

The North squad will roster the players from California Interscholastic Federation State Bowl winner Central Catholic and CIF Bowl runner-up Oakdale (Division IV and III SJS champions), as well as section champion Le Grande (D-V) and runner-up Escalon (D-IV).

The South garners players from the highly regarded Fresno area with the CS Division I runner-up (Central), DII runner up (Sanger), DV champion (Liberty) and the DVI winner (Mendota) in attendance.

That game begins at 7:45 p.m.

On July 11, Oakdale baseball and softball players will also take on the 23rd Annual High School Baseball and Softball All Star Classic in Stockton. The rosters for this event have not been released.
