Lady Mustangs Split VOL Soccer Action

Action on the soccer field for the Oakdale High School varsity Lady Mustangs saw them play a pair of matches this past week, crafting a win and a tie in Valley Oak League play.

On Monday, Jan. 7 the Oakdale girls (6-6-2, 2-3-1) clashed with Kimball (4-7-4, 1-3-2) and on Wednesday, Jan. 9 the girls hosted Central Catholic (1-9-2, 1-3-2).

In their game against Kimball, Oakdale trailed 1-0 in the first half and tied the game in the second half when Maquel Besson scored on a header goal thanks to an assist from Kassy Rodriguez. In goal for Oakdale was Lindsey Lumm, who had seven saves in the game, with the squads ending the game knotted at 1-1.

Later in the week, the Lady Mustangs used all their offensive weapons to help lift them to a 10-0 home win over the visiting Raiders. Oakdale had a balanced attack as they scored five first half goals, and answered with five more in the second. Nine different players scored for Oakdale. Kassy Rodriguez had two goals and an assist in the contest. Brianna Montoya, Hannah Guthrie, Kendra Branch, Jade Manriquez, Besson, Chloe Chase, Alexandria Casillas and Krissy Lolonis each scored one goal.

Oakdale’s busy schedule continues this week; they were scheduled to host Manteca (6-6-3, 3-2-1) on Monday, Jan. 14 following The Leader press time. On Wednesday, Jan. 16 the team will honor 11 seniors for Senior Night 2018 just before their game against East Union (11-2-1, 5-1-0).
