Lady Mustang Varsity Hoopsters Roll To Victory

Two games this week resulted in a pair of wins for the Oakdale High School varsity girls basketball team. Oakdale (10-2) earned a pair of road wins this past week. The varsity girls earned wins over Gregori (1-9) and Buhach Colony (3-4) to improve to 5-2 on the road this season.

On Tuesday, Dec. 18 the Lady Mustangs traveled to Modesto to take on the Jaguars of Gregori. Oakdale defeated Gregori 63-57. Grace Higle led the team with 19 points. Higle made nine of 12 free throws to help lead the Lady Mustangs to the victory. Sharpshooter Alicia Platt shot 50 percent from the field knocking down six of 12 of her shots and scored 15 points in the win. Sophomore Kayden Legan scored 11 points and added four steals for Oakdale.

Friday night the team defeated Buhach Colony in Atwater, 45-34. Legan scored a game high 21 points in the road win, including 12 of her 21 in the third quarter. Higle added 10 points in the win. With the victory, Oakdale has now won eight consecutive games.

The team’s road trip continues as the girls travel to Turlock for the Pitman Holiday Tournament. It is a three-day tournament that tips off on Thursday, Dec. 27 and wraps up on Saturday, Dec. 29. Wednesday, Jan. 2 the team travels to Lodi for their final non-conference game of the season.

Valley Oak League action tips off on Friday, Jan. 4 at Manteca and their home opener for the regular season is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 9 when they take on Sierra. Tip off for all Valley Oak League games is scheduled for 7 p.m.

No junior varsity or freshmen scores were reported as of The Leader’s holiday press time. This week both the JV and freshman teams will take part in the Chavez Tournament at Chavez High School in Stockton. The three-day tournament takes place from Thursday, Dec. 27 to Saturday, Dec. 29.
