Timothy Burr Van Horn, 61, died Friday, June 19 in Mountain View after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Redlands on March 26, 1948. He graduated from the University of Redlands earning both a B.A. in Political Science and a Masters Degree in School Administration. He also earned his teaching credentials at the University of California, Long Beach. During his high school and college years, he played multiple sports including football, track and baseball and received both academic and athletic honors.
He met and married Starr Peterson in 1972 and together they raised their daughter, Kimberly. They have resided in Oakdale for the past 23 years.
For over 37 years, Mr. Van Horn enjoyed a fulfilling career in education. He dedicated his life to students and their education, and worked hard to continually make a positive impact at the high school and district level through the programs he developed.
He started as a Special Education teacher in Redlands with the past 29 years spent in administration at high schools including Beyer, Golden Valley, Ripon, Franklin, and Stagg. Many years were also spent coaching football and track.
He enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to Hawaii, playing cards with his buddies, cooking, photography, fishing, and watching his daughter play volleyball.
Survivors include his wife, Starr; daughter, Kimberly; parents, Lynn and Opal Van Horn; brother, Ron Van Horn; and sister, Cindy Langwell.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Randy Van Horn.
Memorial services were held on June 27 at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, Modesto.
