JENNIE NANCY (LONGIS) CASTAGNE

Jennie Castagne passed away at Astoria at Oakdale Assisted Living on November 13, 2015. She passed away two days after her 101st birthday, and she had a great time at her birthday party. Born in Modesto, CA, moved to Oakdale at the age of 4 with her parents, Frank and Marie Longis who started the French Steam Laundry on Yosemite Ave., which is still in use. They ran the laundry until 1964. Jennie was the Almond Festival Queen in Oakdale in 1933 when Oakdale was known as the City of Almonds. She married Frank (Frenchie) Castagne and they had two children.

She is survived by her children Jean Joseph Castagne (Mary Jane) of Oakdale and Rose Marie Weems, grandsons Robert and David Weems and great granddaughter Madison Weems from Southern California. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank (Frenchie) Castagne, mother and father Frank and Marie Longis and grandson John Castagne.

Arrangements are entrusted to Oakdale Memorial Chapel.

Rosary was Monday, November 23rd at 6 p.m. at the Chapel. Graveside services were Tuesday, November 24th, 11:30 a.m. at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery located on the corner of East J St. and Sierra Ave., Oakdale.

We would like to thank the management and staff at Astoria at Oakdale for the great care and love that they gave Mom. She was a 6 year resident of the facility. Thank you to Dr. Mahida and staff for the great care they gave mom.

ETHEL LOUISE BIGGS CRUSE

At the age of 85, Louise went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 in Chandler, AZ. Louise was born in Clarkston, WA on Dec. 21, 1929. Louise lived in Oakdale, Ca., Fair Oaks, Ca., Nampa, Id., and Chandler, Az. She was preceded in death by her husband Charley “Buck” Cruse, her daughter Sherry Haak, granddaughter Lori Roberts, and her parents James and Ethel Biggs, eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Lonnie (Dona) Cruse, daughter Shirley (Richard) Rulla, son-in-law Ralph Haak, eight grandchildren, Debbie, Kim, Corinna, Brian, Lauana, Shawn, Angelique and Jeff plus 16 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She worked at the cannery in Oakdale, Ca. and as a meat wrapper for Raley’s and Vans Markets in Sacramento, Ca. Louise was very active with her Baptist Church family.

Viewing was Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Valley of the Sun at 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Az. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, Id. at 3:30 p.m.
