Clarinda ‘Mae Belle’ Logsdon, 82, died unexpectedly and peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 24 in Oakdale. She was able to be active and do the things she loved up to the last moment of her life.
She was born in Wichita, Kan. to Lee and Ruth Coffman. She was raised with her four sisters, Mary Lee, Helen, Donna Belle, and Alma, in Liberal, Kan. The family moved to Modesto in 1945. She was married to Jesse Logsdon from 1948 to 1974. They raised three children in Salida, moving to Modesto in 1964.
Mrs. Logsdon worked for Modesto Public Schools from 1966 until 1973 when she was hired by Hershey’s. She moved to Oakdale in 1993 and retired from Hershey’s in 1994, after 20 years with the company.
She enjoyed monthly lunches with her Hershey’s retiree ‘sisters,’ going shopping, doing word-find puzzles, and playing Aggravation or Chinese Checkers with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid NASCAR fan. She was also a fan of Tom Selleck and Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. She will long be remembered as the classy, bejeweled, little white-haired lady who could frequently be spotted driving her red Mustang in downtown Oakdale, her license plate cover aptly stating ‘Red Hot Granny.’
She is survived by her children, Linda (Tom) Phillips of Oakdale, Betty (Greg) Milliken of Laramie, Wyo., Mearl (Kelli) Logsdon of Modesto; sisters, Alma Gerhardt of Modesto, Helen Tuggle of Belleville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Her final resting place will be at Acacia Cemetery, Modesto.
