  Chris Paul Habelt, 39, died Monday, July 20 in Oakdale.

He was born in Walnut Creek and grew up in South Lake Tahoe and Modesto.

As a young man, he started his own concrete business. He became a general contractor and owned Habelt Concrete Construction for several years.

Mr. Habelt was a wonderful husband, father and son. He was smart, kind and gentle; he would help anyone that needed a hand at any time. He enjoyed water-skiing, fishing and activities with his boys. He loved his family and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with “his boys.” They have many happy memories of times together at Mission Springs.

Survivors include his wife, Sonja; their sons, Trent, Chad and Tate, all of Oakdale; his mother and stepfather, Dori and Charles Lockett of Modesto; parents-in-law, Jim and Berma Lynn Blomquist of Riverbank; sister, Stacey (Chris) Markese of Modesto; sister-in-law, Susan (Francis) Kuehl of Monterey; brother, Mark (Robin) Swartz of Denair; sister, Kristy (Bill) Scherbak of Markleeville; nephew, Kyle Courtroul of Modesto; niece and nephew, Devon and Zack Scherbak of Markleeville; uncle and aunt, Emil and Maureen Scarpitti; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Habelt, who was killed in the line of duty while a Sheriff in Texas.

A memorial was held July 23 at Modesto Covenant Church, 913 Floyd Ave.
