On Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, Chris Chavez Jr., age 61, passed away peacefully at Doctors Medical Center of Modesto surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1957 to Lupe and Chris Chavez in Phoenix, AZ, he was the second of seven children.

As a young boy, Chris moved to Oakdale, CA, before attending Cloverland Elementary and Oakdale High School, where he loved playing baseball and football. After high school, Chris worked as a molding operator at Hershey’s chocolate plant, where he met the love of his life, Nancy Ellis. Chris and Nancy were married in 1982 and together enjoyed four-wheeling, fishing, boating, shooting, playing pool, and golfing. Chris was a member of the Oakdale Sportsman Club. The couple’s main source of joy came in 1986 when their son Travis was born. Chris was a true family man who loved raising and spending time with his son, including taking an unforgettable trip to Australia to watch Travis play baseball.

As a member of Living Hope Church, Chris’s faith in God grew and flourished. In 2002, Nancy was taken to be with the Lord. With her passing, Chris and Travis truly depended on each other, developing an even deeper, stronger bond. Throughout his life, Chris was a very giving man – he would do anything for anyone. He was a great friend, uncle, brother, and son, and a devoted husband and father. Chris was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Chavez; father, Chris Chavez; and brother, Able Chavez. He is survived by his son, Travis Chavez; mother, Lupe Chavez; brothers, Ricky Chavez and Franky Chavez; sisters, Betty Chavez, Theresa (Steve) Chavez Evans, and Samantha (Robert) Souza; in-laws, Mike (Penny) Ellis and Ken (Kelly) Montero; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him very much. Knowing that Chris is now free and has joined Nancy in Heaven makes all of our hearts smile. We will miss you more than you will ever know.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday, Nov. 24th at 2 p.m. at the Oakdale Sportsman’s Club, 840 Stearns Road, Oakdale, CA.
