Valley Home students and families enjoyed a free family fun night Friday night in the gym. Thanks to the City of Oakdale, a giant inflatable movie screen was set up in the gym and everyone enjoyed "Monsters, Inc." Thanks to Steves Chevrolet, fresh popcorn popped all night and was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Chad Tienken for operating the movie and sound so professionally. Thanks are also due to the Valley Home PTC for a free and fun filled evening!

There is nothing tastier and more cooling than a drink of ice cool lemonade on a hot day! Lemonade Day is Saturday, May 18. We have received word that Bryce McKenzie will have his stand again this year. Just thirsting for a delicious ice cold lemonade? This year Bryce will be located on Henry Road, just South of Lone Tree. Come by if you are hot and thirsty!

Oakdale Girl and Boy Scouts, members of the Oakdale Historical Society and the Oakdale Garden Club will gather at the Oakdale Citizens’ Cemetery on September 25th to assist with the placing of American flags on Veteran graves located in the Cemetery at 9 a.m. on that date. Maps will be available for the location of the graves and information will be available for those assisting in the placement of the flags. A service honoring our fallen heroes will be held at 11:30 on Memorial Day.

Your reporter was honored with a delicious dinner at Denny’s Restaurant in Oakdale on Mother’s Day, hosted by son, Michael Burghardt and grandson, Jeff Burghardt, and attended by husband, Glenn. She was also gifted with a floral gift of a beautiful blooming plant in a fishing bear planter. The bear had a great fishing day with a fish on his line and several more hanging on the side of the planter.

Good things are worth waiting for! That old adage couldn't be more correct, although, on occasion seems terribly slow in arriving such as the afternoon of old fashioned silent movie fun slated for Sunday, May 19th, at St. Luke's Lutheran church. Not only do attendees get to enjoy a step back into the days of the Silent Movie Era, but an afternoon of the wonderful organ music back drop for the film provided by the talented fingers of Dave Moreno on the church organ. The showing wouldn't be complete without a review of the era and a song or two by Matias Bombal. Relax and enjoy the comical antics of Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy in "One A" and "Double Whoopee." Following the movies take the opportunity to enjoy a free dish of homemade ice cream and purchase a slice of homemade pie to go with the ice cream. Can you think of a nicer way to end the afternoon?
This afternoon of enjoying silent film comedy with friends and neighbors is provided free to those attending, however, a donation to aid in funding of special items for the church are greatly appreciated.
