We begin this week’s column with a special Happy Birthday to a gentleman who has worked tirelessly for our Valley Home community. Mr. Glenn Burghardt celebrates his big day during the month of May! Glenn and his lovely wife Laura have volunteered countless hours, and have been involved in most of the committees, events, work days, etc. that help make Valley Home such a special place to live. Glenn, we appreciate everything you do. Happy Birthday to our good friend ... Go Navy!

Exciting news from our Valley Home 4-H. The 4-Hers Rodeo booth was a huge success with lots of delicious hot dogs and tasty treats being sold over Rodeo weekend! A big thank you to all who supported Valley Home 4-H.

More in 4-H news ... Officer elections will be on the agenda at the monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 6th. The monthly meetings are held at the Baptist Church on Valley Home Road, and start at 7 p.m. President Garret Bryhni reports that plans will also be discussed for the 4-Hers’ participation in the Valley Home Memorial Day ceremony. For the last several years our Valley Home 4-Hers have been a part of this special day. The 4-Hers usually raise the flag, lay a wreath near the flag and give a speech which pays respect to these special men and women. The 4-Hers invite everyone to join them at Valley Home Memorial Park to show our appreciation for the service and sacrifice these brave women and men have made for our country. More information to follow.

We are happy to report that our good friend Tony Taro had a wonderful time at his “Class of ‘41” reunion. He and his Oakdale High classmates had fun visiting and really enjoyed this special day.

At our MAC meeting, Supervisor O’Brien reported that avian flu had been found in Stanislaus County, he also reported that should Symbiosis consider coming back to Woodward this year the county has some new guidelines regarding sound level and event start and stop times. Supervisor O’Brien also answered questions concerning water issues in and around Valley Home.

Fire Battalion Chief Rick Bussell reported that a new Fire Chief has been hired. Chief Randy Bradley started on April 17, 2014. Battalion Chief Bussell also gave us the exciting news that Rural has a new water tender. While on the subject of the water tender we would like to once again say thank you to Larry Lopes who drove the water tender for many years. We always felt safe knowing Larry was at the wheel of the rural fire tender. Even late at night Larry was always glad to get up, head to the station and fire up the beautiful old water tender. Thanks Larry for going above and beyond for all of us!
