We have a delicious opportunity this weekend to enjoy some fabulous food while supporting our hardworking Valley Home 4-H members in addition to the wonderful fundraising Barbecue for our Valley Home Community Park.

Our Valley Home 4-H will be having a Bake and Craft Sale on this Saturday, September 22nd at Oakdale Tractor Supply from 8 am-4 pm. Look for them inside the store. They will be offering Portuguese Sweet Bread for $5 and lots of other delicious sweets and some crafts. Money raised from this sale will go for 4-H Club activities.

Later that same afternoon, we invite you to attend the mouth watering Barbecue dinner being held at our Valley Home Community Park on September 22nd. The dinner may be purchased for take-out or enjoyed at the Park at tables located under the park pavilion. The dinner will start at 5:30 p.m. and is being catered by Mike Jerome Catering of Valley Home. The dinner will feature your choice of a marinated boneless chicken sandwich or a tri-tip sandwich, served with pinto and kidney beans in addition to a pasta or potato salad. Soft drinks or bottled water will be provided as was done at the Park dedication a little over a year ago.

Last week your reporter made an error in reporting where to phone for tickets for the event and we apologize for the error. For tickets please give Winnie Mullins a call at 605-4843. Tickets for the event are priced at $10.00 for adults or $5.00 for children under 12 years of age. For those of us who attended last year's event we can attest to the delicious food served up by Mike on that occasion and are all eagerly looking forward to another great dinner.

Funds created from the dinner will be used for upkeep of the park and repairs when needed. This year it was necessary to make repairs to the water system for the lawn and garden area and to repair some vandalism to areas in the park.

Attending the festivities for Don were Dave and Kathy Williams from Escalon, Dave Ferreira from Valley Home, Dan Dooley from Oakdale, and Glenn and Laura Burghardt of Valley Home. The dinner was hosted by Don's parents, Claire and Tony Taro.

Last Saturday while attending the Oak Valley Art Society meeting at the Escalon Library, we spotted an interesting exhibit by one of the Society's young members, Bryce McKenzie which was quite impressive. Bryce is the son of Valley Home Parent's Club member, Michelle McKenzie, and he shares the following information concerning the exhibit with us. "I have been playing with Legos since I was about 2. I started with the Duplo Legos-plain blocks and the Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder and Lightning McQueen Sets. Then as I got older, I switched to the smaller Lego bricks and the more complicated sets. I LOVE Legos because they are fun to play with. I like to design and build things with them. It usually takes a couple hours to build something big; it took 2 days, a few hours each day, to build the four-headed dragon. I went to Legoland over the summer and it was super fun." Be certain to check out Bryce's exhibit when you visit the Library, it is in a case right inside the Library entrance.
