Our members of Oakdale’s Fun Lovin’ Ladies are all getting gussied up in their purple outfits and making that important decision on which one of their Red Hats to select for their February 6th meeting. The group will travel to Modesto this month to partake of the cuisine offered at Minnie’s Restaurant. Just a reminder to be certain to give Cookie a ring at 847-0761, if you need to cancel or have not made your reservation, as we need to confirm with the restaurant how many to expect.

Let’s have a big round of applause for Valley Home 4-Her, Halley Smith. Halley just attended a weekend 4-H conference in Sanger called Leadership Conference of Regional Teens along with Orange Blossom 4-Hers, Tiffany, Melissa, Denise and Natalie Thompson. The conference was a weekend of workshops and leadership activities relating to the 4-H curriculum and high service and high learning standards. It was held at Wonder Valley Ranch Camp and Conference Center and was a lot of fun for the 4-H members and leaders alike. The facilities and weather were great.

Valley Home 4-H members are busy making plans for the group’s annual Valentine Social. Lots of activity and decisions going on as members get ready for the meeting. What type of delicious goody to place in their specially decorated Valentine box for auctioning at the February 5th meeting. Each family is encouraged to bring an item to be auctioned off and let your artistic ability show with an ornate box just begging to be bid on.

The warmth of the sun these past few days seems to eliminate the winter doldrums and we have seen several families out working together in their yards. There has been a need for a lot of leaf raking to catch up on and in some cases a little lawn mowing too. Obviously, it feels good to get our “green thumbs” working once again.

We have received word that a group of young people have been enjoying the facilities at our Valley Home Community Park which is nice to hear. What is not nice to hear is the fact they constantly leave the park littered with trash. Many hours of hard work went into the building of the park and volunteers work hard to keep the grounds looking nice so that it is always available for residents to enjoy. It is very disappointing to have a group of young people thoughtlessly leaving the grounds a mess after using it.

Several residents will be celebrating birthdays this coming week. Travis Kent will enjoy festivities celebrating his 16th birthday on February 2nd. Many happy returns of the day, Travis, from all your Valley Home friends.
