We are excited to let you all know that we have begun forming our Relay For Life team for 2020! We are excited to be a part of this important event. We hope you will join us, we need you! Please consider joining our team, joining another team or maybe even start your own team! The purpose of Relay For Life is to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer. Cancer touches many of us. I had no idea how much the money raised helps cancer patients as they go through this journey. It helps in so many ways, research, advances in treatments, rides to chemo and so much more! As for our part this year, we are a new team. We have chosen the team name, “Making Lemonade”. “When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade” until there is a cure!

Here is some information on this important event. Our Oakdale-Riverbank-Escalon-Waterford Relay For Life will be held on May 2 and 3 on the Oakdale High School soccer fields. Oakdale Leader Editor, Marg Jackson is the Chairperson (Event Lead) this year. She is amazing, high energy and a true inspiration. She creates enthusiasm in each of us!

After choosing a team name, each team captain begins to put their team together, at least 12 people and more if possible. There is no limit on how many can be on a team. Each team member is asked to raise $100 or more to be turned in now or at the event. The 2020 Relay For Life is a 24 hour event! Each team is asked to keep someone on the track walking at all times. Team members who have raised $100 will receive a T-shirt and youth that reach the $100 level also receive a wristband that allows them to stay with their team throughout the night. Each team will have an area behind their booth to set up tents for sleeping accommodations; again, the goal is always having at least one member of your team on the track throughout the night! 24 hours, our opportunity to help raise funds to fight this horrible disease!

We hope you will support the fight against cancer on May 2nd & 3rd. A great way to show your support is to come out during the event. It is free to enter the field and each booth will be selling fun items, food or have games and activities going on to raise money. There will be tons of food choices, tasty refreshing drinks, carnival games to play, music, you name it and it will probably be there for you to enjoy! A great way to support! Although for a very serious cause, this year’s theme is Carnival, so you can imagine the fun!

There are different levels of event sponsorships that are tax deductible and the tax ID number will be provided to you. Your help is very much needed and appreciated. Look for more information soon on a very caring way to honor someone you love during the evening of May 2nd!
