Valley Home News 1-13-21
Winnie Mullins

This week’s column is dedicated to two very amazing people! Laura and Glenn Burghardt have devoted their lives to their beloved Valley Home community. So many of the things we take for granted in our community are due to Laura and Glenn’s tireless work. Over the years, and with the help of many Valley Home community members the Burghardts have helped raise funds for countless projects in our community. Glenn researched the history of Valley Home and compiled very informative reading material on our past. Glenn’s research tells us about Valley Home before the World War. We learned that the war had a tremendous impact on the mostly German congregation at the Lutheran Church. The Burghardts have put together amazing picture boards that show times past in Valley Home. Glenn and Laura have gladly shared these boards at many community functions. Glenn served for many years on our Valley Home Park Board, and Laura wrote the Valley Home News for 38 years! They have served as grand marshals for our Valley Home Christmas parade, and also served as judges years ago for our Valley Home Community Scarecrow Contest. I remember the fun we had the year Laura and Glenn dressed up as pirates for our Valley Home School Harvest Festival!

We deeply appreciate your service to our Valley Home community Laura and Glenn!

Our Valley Home 4-H community service project will be making valentines for our senior care homes. We will be social distancing for safety. Our 4-H community service project will soon be announcing plans for a new Valley Home tradition. We will be having a community treasure hunt! We will share details on the treasure hunt soon. Everyone please join in the fun!

Hopefully we will be able to have our annual Easter egg hunt. Only time will tell.
