The Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority (StanRTA) replaced former fixed-route single-ride fares with a 1-Day pass for $2.00 in January 2022. This “All-Day” pass provides riders unlimited trips on The S for the entire day of purchase. As gas prices surpass $5.00 a gallon and continue to climb, the $2.00 1-Day pass is an option worth noting for residents looking for ways to reduce their personal gas consumption.
The 1-Day pass is usable on all 26 fixed routes provided by The S. There is no transfer fee between former Modesto Area Express (MAX) and Stanislaus Regional Transit (StaRT) routes. The S travels across Stanislaus County - from downtown Modesto (20 routes); to Escalon (Route 35); to Ceres (Route 44); to Patterson and Turlock (Route 45E); to Gustine, Patterson, Newman and Crows Landing (Route 45W); to Riverbank and Oakdale (Route 60); and to Empire, Waterford, Hickman, Hughson, and Ceres (Route 61). Residents can now ride any of these routes, as many times as they’d like in one day, for $2. A Half Fare version of the 1-Day pass is available to seniors, persons with disabilities, Medicare cardholders, and veterans for $1.00. Riders 18 and under ride free.
“We know residents often find themselves needing to travel from one end of the county to the other for employment, medical, and family needs,” said Adam Barth, CEO of StanRTA. “We do not want gas prices to cause folks to skip needed travel, like trips to the doctor. We’re proud that Stanislaus residents can travel all day on The S for less than half the price of a gallon of gas.”
StanRTA is encouraging residents to visit The S social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to open a discussion on how to use the 1-Day pass to complete travel needs.
“We hope the conversation will give new riders ideas on how they can stretch that $2.00 pass to cover trips they hadn’t considered before,” said Barth. “Residents are still getting used to the idea that The S is not just one new blue bus, but that it includes all former MAX and StaRT buses.”
The 1-Day pass is available for exact change on The S Bus. All passes are available for cash, check, and credit/debit purchase at the Transit Center (located at 1001 9th St. in Modesto). Residents can also download the Token Transit app to buy any fixed-route or commuter passes. The app is available on Google Play and the App Store.
