‘Tomb tales’ to return: actors now being sought
O Tomb

What turned out to be a huge success – growing out of just a tiny spark of an idea – will be back this fall.

“Once Upon A Tomb – Tales From Beyond” was staged as a fundraiser for the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery and featured local actors portraying well-known residents from Oakdale’s past. Actors taking on the roles of the deceased offered stories and commentary at the actual gravesite of their characters and the casting call is going out for this year’s edition.

Those interested in auditioning can contact Amy Velasco via text at 209-840-2273; provide your name, cell phone number and an email address. The auditions are scheduled for Saturday, June 21 at the cemetery, 701 E. J St., starting at 11 a.m.

Velasco said they are seeking “all actors, past actors and self-proclaimed actors” to try out for a role. They need a handful of people, Velasco added, “to help bring our dearly departed community members to life through storytelling.”

The event was so successful in its inaugural staging that organizers have decided to do it again. Actors and other volunteers needed to put on the show are not compensated, as it is a fundraiser for the cemetery.
