Second Place At CSU Competition
Warriors Felice Angelica Dacpano, Eli Frazer and Nahui Gonzalez Millan all earned second place honors during the 36th Annual California State University Student Research Competition. The competition featured 21 categories for undergraduate and graduate students, with students having first presented at their own campus.
Turlock Community Gardens
Geology/paleobiology Professor Julia Sankey knew in January she wanted to enter the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) and teach half-time, but she worked relentlessly throughout her final full-time semester. In addition to using a campus research (RSCA) grant to study the effects of Stanislaus State commuters on local air pollution, Sankey used an Innovate, Design, Excel and Assess for Success (IDEAS) grant to create a free conference about community and school gardens.
Sustainability Efforts
The Capital Planning and Facilities Management team’s work was recognized recently during last month’s Sustainable Facilities Forum. Geng Liu, Stan State’s energy manager, accepted the Sustainability Leadership Award on behalf of CPFM for their work on the campuswide LED lighting conversion and Student Center roof photovoltaic array.
Website Brings Home Bronze
Stanislaus State’s redesigned website recently earned a bronze award in the 2022 Indigo Design Awards, winning recognition in the agency category for website design.
New Director Of Athletics
Aaron Allaire has been named director of athletics at Stanislaus State. Allaire has served as interim director of athletics since February 2022. He began his career in athletics administration at Stan State in 2014. He has also served as a lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology since 2008.
Goalkeeper Takes Game International
When she graduated from South San Francisco High School in 2019 without a college scholarship offer that was the right fit for her, Alexia Estrada wondered if her soccer days were over. Not only did Stanislaus State Women’s Soccer Coach Gabriel Bolton want her to play on his team, so did the Guatemala National Team.
In Case You Missed It
As the Valley economy continues to reel from the pandemic, the Federal Reserve’s anticipated interest rate hikes in 2022, inflation and record-breaking oil prices cast a pall of uncertainty over the outlook. The Federal Reserve’s primary focus to lower inflation by increasing interest rates could steer the regional economy toward a hard landing. That is the economic outlook for the coming year according to the biannual San Joaquin Valley Business Forecast produced by Gokce Soydemir, the Foster Farms endowed professor of business economics at Stanislaus State.
