The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Sept. 1 through Monday, Sept. 7. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, SEPT. 7
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned in Washington assigned to the Little Giant fire.
OES 4618 assigned to the Plaskett fire was assigned to DIV. TT and worked a 12-hour operational period supporting hand crews and dozers working on containment lines.
Captain Zurilgen is assigned to the McCully incident in Oregon working as a Base Camp Manager.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s and conducted Monday apparatus checks and station yard maintenance.
4:30 p.m. – Engine 29 and Battalion 5 responded to a medical aid for a patient in cardiac arrest. Engine 29 arrived on scene staffed with a paramedic and immediately started Advanced Life Support care. With the assistance of Oak Valley Ambulance, crews provided treatment on scene for roughly 40 minutes. Unfortunately, there was no change to the patient’s condition and they were declared deceased on scene.
8:46 p.m. – Engine 11, Water Rescue 26, WR28 and Battalion 5 responded to Hogue Road and McHenry Avenue for a water rescue. With the assistance of Air 101 crews were able to locate two stranded rafters on the river after their raft had deflated. WR26 assisted the two rafters up to a safe area where they were evaluated by AMR and released with no further medical care.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 6
Battalion 2: Captain Leighton worked his final shift on Engine 26. A Retirement Ceremony was scheduled for the morning of September 8 at Station 26.
Chief Tucker remains deployed to Washington on the Little Giant Fire.
Captain Zurilgen has deployed to Oregon as a Base Camp Manager.
OES 4618 and Strike Team Leader Crabtree remain assigned to the Plaskett Fire. Today they were assigned to DIV TT and conducted mop up and patrol of the division.
9:54 a.m. – Engine 24, B23, WT23, G21, WT21, B28, and BC2 were dispatched to a vegetation fire in the 15300 block of Keyes Road. E24 arrived on scene and found a smoldering pile of almond hulls with no threat of extension. B23, WT23, and BC2 continued to the scene and the balance was cancelled. Crew spent approximately two hours mopping up with the assistance of an onsite front loader.
Battalion 5: MFD crews met up at Station 17 and prepared for an up and coming probationary test.
10 p.m. – Engine 28 and BC5 responded to Church Street in the city of Oakdale for an assault with a deadly weapon. One patient was transported to the hospital with E28 personnel riding in with the ambulance to assist with medical care.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 5
Battalion 2: BC Tucker continues to be deployed to Washington State as a Base Camp Manager.
Captain Zurilgen deployed to the McCulley Fire in Oregon as a Base Camp Manager.
Captain Crabtree remains deployed as XST4204F Strike Team Leader to Plaskett Fire. OES 4618 remains deployed with XST4204F on the Plaskett Fire.
All of A shift completed Saturday inservice training on new Grass 21.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed Saturday drills.
BC5 inspected a fuel reduction project near 900 Old Stockton Road in the City of Oakdale. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department utilized goats to reduce fuel loading adjacent to the mobile home park.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 4
Battalion 2: Battalion Chief Tucker continues to be deployed to Washington State as a Base Camp Manager.
Captain Crabtree remains deployed as XST4204F Strike Team Leader to Plaskett Fire.
OES 4618 remains deployed with XST4204F.
All of C shift completed in service training on new Grass 21.
Battalion 5: Crews trained in their territories on firefighting strategies and tactics.
The Technical Rescue team along with apparatus from Turlock participated in a drill in the back country east of Knights Ferry. The drill simulated a hiker that had fallen over a cliff down to the river. Crews trained on both high and low angle rescue techniques Friday.
9:22 p.m. – Engine 28 responded to a report of a travel trailer on fire on Stearns and Warnerville Road in Oakdale. Crews found a fully involved trailer on arrival. The fire was extinguished and the FIU was investigating the cause.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 3
Battalion 2: 10:09 a.m. – Engine 23, Engine 9, Medic 1 and BC2 responded to Albers at Dusty Lane for a multiple vehicle accident with three patients. Three occupants were transported to area hospitals by ambulance. CHP is investigating.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 2

Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
E-29 did weekly apparatus and station maintenance at Station 30 in Valley Home.
11:41 a.m. – Engine 27, Grass 21, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, Battalion 2 and Chief 8 responded to San Joaquin County to assist with a vegetation fire. The fire burned approximately 3 to 5 acres. Crew were on scene for approximately two and a half hours assisting with extinguishment and mop up.
