The varsity football Bruins and the varsity flag football Lady Bruins were both winners on the gridiron this past week.
For the boys, they welcomed the Gustine Reds to Angelo Novi Field on Friday night, Sept. 4 and ground out a hard fought 7-6 victory.
Leading the offense for Riverbank was Kevin Caballero, who had three carries for 65 yards and scored the Bruin touchdown in the third quarter. Gustine got on the board in the fourth quarter but failed to get the game tied, with the host Riverbank squad taking the non-league victory.
The flag football girls, meanwhile, played their way to a 21-6 win against Millennium to close out August and then came back with a strong effort against Waterford, winning that Sept. 2 contest by a 26-8 decision.
Also in action recently, cross country runners attended the Central Valley Classic at Woodward Park in Fresno and for the varsity boys, the top effort came from Armando Garcia, who placed eighth in the boys 3000 meters in a time of 9:40.
For the varsity girls, Zuri Golding placed 14th in the 3000 at 12:17. The frosh-soph boys got a third place finish from Giancarlo Reyes in the 3000 with a time of 10:27; Aaron Gabrie took 13th and Diego Garnica finished 14th.
The volleyball girls took a couple of losses this past week, as the varsity squad was swept by Denair, 3-0, on Sept. 2 and then fell to Delhi by a 3-1 final on Sept. 3.
