Oakdale and Riverbank will be taking part in the MST – Modesto-Stanislaus-Turlock – series of memorial ceremonies in observance of the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Five departments within the MST – Modesto Fire Department will be hosting ceremonies on Friday, Sept. 11.

The programs at each site are scheduled for an 8:46 a.m. start; those planning to attend are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m.

In Oakdale, Fire Station 28 at 325 East G Street will be the location for the ceremony while Station 26 in Riverbank, at 3318 Topeka, will also have a ceremony.

Modesto Fire Department officials said the ceremonies are being put on “in partnership with our local law enforcement, public safety, and emergency service agencies.”

The ceremonies will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 that destroyed the Twin Towers in New York City and damaged the Pentagon. A fourth hijacked plane went down in a field in Pennsylvania, never reaching its intended target, as passengers fought back against the hijackers.

Other stations hosting ceremonies will include: Modesto Station 1 at 600 11th Street; Ceres, at Whitmore Park, Second Street at the American Legion Ceres Post; Turlock, Staton 31 at 540 East Marshall Street.

All ceremonies are open to the public and will begin simultaneously at 8:46 a.m.; marking the time the first plane struck the North Tower, 1 World Trade Center, on Sept. 11.
