The Oakdale Citizens Cemetery will serve as the host site for the Saturday, Oct. 3 evening of history and mystery, with the third edition of Once Upon A Tomb taking place.

With multiple tours offered, the program features stops at the gravesites of several notable area residents who had an impact on Oakdale and helped shape its history, and now have their final resting place in the J Street cemetery.

Helping coordinate the program once again this year is Amy Velasco, who said the evening begins with a 5 p.m. tour, followed by staggered tours at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.

“The 5 p.m. tour is for people who have limited mobility, it is a longer, slower tour,” Velasco said. “Tickets are $25 and all proceeds go to the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.”

There is also a small service fee in addition to the purchase price.

Other changes this year include a new entrance, near the cemetery office on East J Street, and there will also be a coffee truck on site.

“We have an extra tour guide this year to make sure all tours leave precisely on time,” Velasco said.
