The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Aug. 25 through Monday, Aug. 31. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, AUG. 31
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned in Washington assigned to the Little Giant fire.
Crews performed Monday engine and equipment checks.
OES 4618 assigned to the Plaskett fire was assigned to DIV. AA and worked a 12-hour operational period. Crews worked on line construction and putting in hoselays.
Battalion 5: Crews performed weekly apparatus and equipment inspections and maintenance.
Engine 28 and Battalion 5 joined Fire Chief Evans, Assistant Chief Hunter and MCFFA Local 1289 Executive Board members at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club to support the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce 2026 Golf Classic. The Chamber honored local First Responders and Military personnel.
SUNDAY, AUG. 30
Battalion 2: BC Tucker continues to be deployed to Washington State as a base camp manager.
Crabtree was deployed yesterday as XST4204F Strike Team Leader to Plaskett Fire.
OES 4618 was deployed with XST4204F with Battalion 2 firefighters.
Engine 26 had guests visit the fire station for a tour.
Battalion 5: 4 p.m. – Brush 28, E27, WT 27 and BC5 were dispatched to River Road and Sawyer Avenue for a smoke check. Crews arrived and found several small burn piles near the river. MFD personnel assisted with extinguishing the piles and turned the property back over to the owner.
SATURDAY, AUG. 29
OES 4615 and OES 4617 completed demobilization from the Hawk Fire in Nevada and returned to Stanislaus County late in the afternoon.
Battalion 2: Saturday drills and training occurred across the battalion.
Battalion 5: Crews conducted equipment and apparatus checks in addition to weekly station maintenance.
Battalion 5 and Engine 29 reviewed and refamiliarized with access points for the swift water boats. Crews also reviewed and pre planned target areas for wildland incidents.
Engine 28 crew conducted a walkthrough of a building in the 400 block of East F Street in Oakdale. Crews reviewed access points and made notes of any hazards or challenges that could be present during an incident.
E28 crews assisted in rescuing a pigeon that was trapped inside a residence on Third Street in Oakdale.
6:53 p.m. – Engine 27, E26 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a vehicle accident in the area of Crane Road and Patterson Road. Engine 27 arrived and determined there was only one patient and an ambulance on scene was already tending to them. The accident is being investigated by the CHP.
FRIDAY, AUG. 28
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies’ daily activities today included training in several different disciplines.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
11:58 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to an injury vehicle accident at Valley Home Road and 26 Mile Road. E28 arrived on scene to find a big rig vs. an SUV and checked for injuries. Crews on scene provided care for one patient with moderate injuries and assisted with traffic control.
Engine 28 assisted an Oakdale resident with getting a kitten off of the roof.
THURSDAY, AUG. 27
Battalion 2: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Battalion 5: 1:59 p.m. – Engine 28 was dispatched to a (fire out) call in the 500 block of Sierra Avenue in Oakdale. Upon investigation they found a very small area of insulation in the attic still smoldering. E28 was able to make access in and around the area to mitigate the situation.
E29 trained on driver training with an emphasis on backing the boat trailer around obstacles and in uneven and soft surfaces.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 26
The MST Administration hosted an MST Briefing.
MFD personnel participated in the La Loma Community BBQ Cook-off that was MFD vs. MPD. MPD won the event.
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker arrived in Washington and is assigned to the Little Giant Fire.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
BC Costa and Captain Wallace trained on roles, responsibilities, and staffing pertaining to Battalion 5.
TUESDAY, AUG. 25
Battalion 2: 4:46 a.m. – Engine 24, Brush and Water Tender 23, Brush 28, Grass and WT21, Grass 29 and Battalion 2 responded for a vehicle fire with extension into the vegetation. Cal Fire 4456 and Engine 24 were able to quickly contain the grass fire and vehicle fire. The balance of the response was canceled.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 assisted with Firefighter interviews at Station 17.
Station 29 assisted and took the time to answer questions for one of the Firefighter candidates.
10 a.m. – E28 responded to the area of Oak Avenue and Walnut for a vehicle vs. power pole. E28 arrived at scene and found that the party involved was not injured. The scene was turned over to the Oakdale Police Department.
12 p.m. – E28 responded to the area of F Street and First Avenue for a vehicle vs. cyclist. E28 assisted with medical care and scene safety. Once patient care was complete, the scene was turned over to OPD.
