The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Feb. 27 through Monday, March 4. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, MARCH 4
Battalion 2: All companies performed training with their riders.
Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 27 and 28 trained on water tender operations, drop tank use and drafting.
SUNDAY, MARCH 3
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies performed engine and station maintenance.
7:29 p.m. – Engine 9, Q22 and BC2 responded to a vehicle accident at Church and Milnes. E9 arrived and reported it to be non-injury.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies completed a pre fire walk through of local downtown businesses.
Crews from Stations 28 and 29 trained on boat operator skills and water rescue techniques at Woodward Reservoir.
5:56 p.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Pioneer Road for an EMSCPR call.
9:14 p.m. – Engine 29 to a vehicle fire in Knights Ferry. Crews arrived on scene to find a fire in the passenger compartment. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire without incident. The FIU was notified.
SATURDAY, MARCH 2
Battalion 2: Crews completed administrative training in preparation for upcoming Battalion drills and preliminary budgeting for program managers.
Paramedic students are busy working 12-hour shifts at DMC to complete clinical time.
Battalion 5: 7:56 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Haz Mat 4, and BC5 responded to a reported Hazardous Materials Incident in the 800 block of East F Street in Oakdale. Upon arrival Engine 28 had a small amount of vapor coming from the bottom of a semi tanker that was transporting oxygen refrigerated liquid. The driver of the semi was able to mitigate the cause by closing a valve on the tank that was causing the plumbing on the trailer to freeze.
Chief Wise, Chief Rice, Engine 27, Engine 28, BC5, and members from other fire departments participated in a fundraising event at GetFit in Oakdale for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Members of the Modesto Fire Department will be participating in the LLS Stairclimb in Seattle, WA next week.
FRIDAY, MARCH 1
Battalion 2: Training with the academy graduates continued.
Engine 26 trained on hose deployment and how to shut off a hydrant using a water key.
Battalion 5: 9:44 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Patterson Road and Langworth Road. Upon arrival there were two vehicles involved with Oak Valley Ambulance already on scene. Engine 27 made contact with the ambulance crew that advised of one patient with minor injuries. The responding balance was cancelled. CHP is investigating the accident.
10:18 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries in the 8000 block of Rodden Road. Engine 28 arrived on scene with two vehicles involved and checked on injuries. There was a total of four patients all with minor injuries that were transported to local hospitals. CHP is investigating the accident.
THURSDAY, FEB. 29
Battalion 2: Engine 26 conducted company level training.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 assisted Oakdale High fire science program with EMS skills.
Engine 29 performed weekly apparatus and station maintenance at Station 30. This included cleaning of the gutters.
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 28
Battalion 2: Engine 26 conducted company level drills including ground ladders and 2½” hose line deployment.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies conducted a multi-company drill focusing on rural water supply and water tender operations.
TUESDAY, FEB. 27
Battalion 2: All companies conducted station and apparatus maintenance.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Battalion 5 companies reviewed the MST 2 out Rapid Intervention policy and trained on removing a downed firefighter from a structure.
