Join VFW For Dinner

Oakdale’s VFW Post is gearing up for the next of its monthly hamburger night fundraisers, with Wednesday, June 1 the date for the next event. Hours are from 5:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m., at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds clubhouse. Attendees can stay after eating to socialize.

All donations at the dessert table at the monthly dinner go to purchase wreaths for Wreaths Across America. The local VFW and Auxiliary’s goal is to have a wreath on every grave at the Santa Nella Veterans cemetery.

 

Connection Luncheon

Oakdale Women’s Connection is back from a break. They are reenergized and resuming their regular monthly luncheons at Papapolloni Mediterranean Bistro, 1214 W. F St., Oakdale. The next lunch is set for Thursday, June 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m. and the cost is $18 for a buffet lunch. Oakdale Women’s Connection welcomes all women to join in fellowship, food, and fun. Be inspired by Wilma Pickrell, education administrator and accomplished soprano. She replaced doubt with truth and found a new “sound of music.” Please call Barbara (847-5605) with reservations by Monday, June 6. Reservations not kept must be honored. Monthly Prayer Connection is at Barbara Martin’s home (332 Lambuth Ave., Oakdale) on Thursday, June 2, at 9:30 a.m.

 

Enjoy Vacation Bible School

A summer kids’ event called Cave Quest VBS will be hosted at Oakdale’s Community Christian Reformed Church (CRC) in Oakdale from Monday, June 6 to Friday, June 10. At Cave Quest, kids explore what it means to follow Jesus through dark times. Kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, dig into yummy treats, experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them of Jesus’ love, and play teamwork-building games. Cave Quest is for kids entering first grade to kids entering seventh grade. The program will run from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each day, with dinner served from 5 p.m. to 5:25 p.m. No charge to attend. Toastmasters Session

Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 8. Movies Under The Stars

Oakdale Family Resource and Counseling Center (OFRC) will host Inside Out for the first Movie Under the Stars event in Cottles Woods Park at dusk on Saturday, June 18. This is the first of three Movie Under the Stars events, the next two taking place July 16 and Aug. 20. The July movie will be a showing of Minions and the August feature will be a showing of Norm of the North. All three events will be in Cottles Woods Park with the show beginning at dusk. All summer long, the OFRC will be holding a backpack supplies drive. Donations of school supplies will be collected at each event. The summer Movie Under the Stars series is sponsored by Center for Human Services-Oakdale Family Resource and Counseling Center in partnership with the City of Oakdale, Kiwanis, Oakdale Rotary and David Verdegaal Farming Inc.

 

Annual Garden Club Fundraiser

The Oakdale Garden Club’s Annual Scholarship Fundraiser will be hosted on Tuesday, June 21. Doors open at 11 a.m.; lunch at noon. The event features a Salad Bar Luncheon, plant sale and silent auction. It will be held at the Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale. Tickets are $8 per person or $90 for a table of 8. Tickets are available from Club Members or at the door. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships for local high school graduates pursuing degrees in horticulture.
