In addition to the many new improvements that Oak Valley Hospital District has made in recent years, from expanding their treatment options to adding state-of-the-art technology within their surgical suites, OVHD is bringing three new physicians to Oakdale to share their expertise, energy and commitment to health and wellness. Dr. Michael Soler, Dr. Baheer Ashna and Dr. Carmela Solimine, Primary Care Physicians, recently joined the hospital and are excited to begin their journeys with OVHD.
Dr. Soler began treating patients this past week and said he is looking forward to building relationships with his patients while also focusing on continuity of care with them.
“First and foremost, I am deeply passionate about preventative medicine. Continuity of care is what drew me to family medicine and I am looking forward to building relationships with my patients and working with them to come up with a game plan regarding their treatment together,” said Soler.
While serving in the United States Armed Forces, Dr. Soler completed his residency at Fort Gordon in Georgia and then went on to work with veterans and their families in South Korea at a large military base.
Most recently, he and his family were living in Central Florida prior to relocating to the Central Valley. Though Dr. Soler and his family have lived in a variety of locations, he recalled how much they enjoyed living close to a farm in rural South Korea and just how much they appreciated the pace of life in that small farming community, something they are looking forward to finding here in the Central Valley.
“My wife and I and our four kids are really invested in Oakdale. We are really looking forward to becoming part of this community,” said Dr. Soler as he shared his enthusiasm about joining OVHD and learning more about local farms and ranches in the ‘Cowboy Capital of the World.’
While Dr. Soler began treating patients this past week, his colleagues, Dr. Baheer Ashna and Dr. Carmela Solimine, will begin treating patients next month. Both Dr. Ashna and Dr. Solimine, a husband-and-wife team that specialize in family medicine, bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to share with patients of all ages. The two share the same philosophy when it comes to medical care which encompasses treating patients through evidentiary based medicine, but both Dr. Ashna and Dr. Solimine have independent areas that they like to focus on. In addition to the full spectrum of family practice, Dr. Solimine will focus on women’s health and pediatrics while Dr. Ashna will focus on geriatric medicine and inpatient care.
“We have both been trained in the full scope of family medicine and there are areas that we each prefer. Because of this, we are able to complement each other nicely,” said Dr. Ashna when noting their diverse areas of interest.
Both physicians studied at the University of Toronto, most recently practicing medicine in Roseburg, Oregon, prior to relocating to California.
“We were drawn to Oakdale because of its safe, family-oriented area, along with its proximity to hiking and nature, in addition to its proximity to multiple airports, which makes it easy to travel,” said Dr. Solimine.
The two also shared that their two children and their dog, a chocolate lab, are looking forward to enjoying some of the fun activities that the area provides including: the Oakdale Morning Market, the Oakdale Fall Jubilee and Steak Cook-Off, along with other fall festivities that are coming up within the next few months.
The newly introduced trio of physicians – Dr. Soler, Dr. Ashna and Dr. Solimine – are committed to providing excellent care for the entire family while also building strong relationships within the community.
