A Wednesday evening crash on Oct. 7 between a big rig and a pick-up truck on Albers Road between Warnerville Road and Oakdale-Waterford Highway resulted in a fatality and the big rig crashing into a residence on Albers Road.

According to both the California Highway Patrol and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire District, the deadly crash occurred just before 9 p.m.

Preliminary investigation by the CHP showed the pickup, a blue Chevrolet, was traveling north on Albers Road when it went into the oncoming lane for an unknown reason and collided with the big rig going southbound. The impact from the collision caused the big rig to veer off the road and crash through a fence into a home on the 6700 block of Albers Road.

CHP Officer J.R. Chiuras said the driver of the big rig, Julio Ayala, 31, of Patterson, tried to warn the driver of the pickup by flashing his high beam headlights when the vehicle was headed towards him. He also tried to swerve to avoid the collision.

When the big rig crashed through the living room of the home, the fuel tanks ruptured, causing diesel fuel to flow into the house and basement.

The driver of the pickup, Jaylen Franks, 56, of Oakdale, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Ayala was transported via ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with unspecified injuries.

Emergency crews had the roadway closed for about four hours as the CHP conducted its investigation and crews cleared away the vehicles and debris.
