Action on Thursday, April 19 saw Oakdale High School hosting East Union in track and field events inside The Corral. The highly anticipated Valley Oak League showdown saw both the boys and girls Mustang teams win with ease. The varsity boys won 100-30 and the girls crafted a 91-37 victory.
Leading the way for the boys was Josh Jacobson. He took first in the 100 meter race, the 200 meter race and the long jump.
James Forkner took first in a pair of events as well, as he crossed the finish line first in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter races. Cameron Burke took first in both the 400 meter race as well as the 300 meter hurdles. Jace Krick earned first place honors in the 110 meter hurdle race. The boys 4x400 meter runners also took first place as AJ Martinez, Hunter Falconi, John Foreman and Justin Jericoff won the relay.
Jorge Barajas ruled the field events. Barajas set a personal record in the discus as he tossed for 136 feet and nine inches. The powerful senior also took first in the shot put.
For the girls, it was Kayden Legan stealing the show. The speedy sophomore took first in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races. She was also on the first place 4x400 meter relay team as well. Cassie England also won multiple events. The senior took first in 100 meter hurdles, the high jump and the long jump. Emma Harper won the discus and Angie Lowry placed first in the shot put.
This Thursday, April 26 Oakdale will host Central Catholic at 3 p.m. in the regular season finale. Track and Field playoffs begin on Friday, May 4 at Sierra High School with a start time scheduled for 2 p.m.
