Sunday Night Shooting Investigated
Knights Ferry

A multi-agency investigation is underway after a deputy-involved shooting that occurred Sunday night, Aug. 6 on Sonora Road in Knights Ferry.

At about 11:25 p.m., a Sheriff’s deputy contacted two men in a vehicle on Sonora Road near the 50’s Roadhouse Diner.

The driver, a 35-year-old man, was detained and seated in the back seat of the deputy’s patrol car. The deputy contacted the passenger, a 28-year-old male, at the vehicle. After a brief conversation, the man fled, running northbound on Sonora Road. The deputy was able to catch up to the man, and a physical confrontation ensued.

During the physical confrontation, the deputy discharged his department issued firearm. The man was struck by gunfire and transported to the emergency room. The deputy had minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital and later released. There are no further details to release as detectives continue to investigate the shooting.
