The Oakdale City Council announced that it will be holding a special meeting on Monday, May 14 at 6 p.m. in closed session to discuss the performance of Finance Director Albert Avila.

Avila, who has been with the city for eight years as its finance director, has come under the spotlight for recent discoveries in the city’s finances and delays of essential financial documents.

On Tuesday it was discovered that a May 25, 2011 auditor’s report had never been delivered to the city council and the overdue 2010-11 fiscal year budget would finally be delivered to city staff.

Last week Oakdale Treasurer Mike Murray abruptly resigned citing concerns of city financial mismanagement and a dispute with Avila in which he was asked to sign 17 overdue statements.

Mayor Pat Paul stated that Interim City Manager Greg Wellman called for the meeting to discuss Avila’s actions in relation to the recent findings.

“We have lots of questions and hopefully we can get answers,” said Paul.

The city also notified Public Works Director Joe Leach that he would be removed from his position in July. Leach has been the director of the embalttled department since 2009.

Both Avila and Leach received notice earlier this month that the city would not be renewing the Senior Management MOU in June defining the terms of their employment.
