Oakdale High School plays Sonora in basketball at the OHS gymnasium on Friday, Feb. 14 for Winter Homecoming. The game is also Senior Night and marks the final time the longstanding rivals will face each other as Valley Oak League opponents, as Sonora will move into a different league next season.

The OHS Winter Homecoming courts have been selected and final voting is going on now for students online until Thursday, Feb. 13. Homecoming royalty candidates are judged in four categories: 25 percent for administrator interviews, 25 percent for the dress up day participation, 25 percent for activity participation, and 25 percent for online voting. (See candidate photos, Page A2.)

The winning candidates will be crowned immediately following the JV game, just prior to senior recognition. The crowning is expected to be at approximately 6:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Winter Homecoming week, which runs Feb. 11-14, is filled with dress up days and lunchtime activities, featuring the theme of “musical genres.”

Tuesday was Lady Gaga Day where students wore crazy outfits and played musical chairs at lunch at the slab. Wednesday is House Music/Rave Day where they dress in neon will play Name That Song. Thursday is Class Theme Day where students dress like their music genre: seniors have hip hop/rap, juniors have reggae, sophomores have country, and freshmen have classic rock. The activity is a rap battle where the songs are school spirit and school related topics. Friday is Spirit Day where the students wear red and gold. A Winter Homecoming rally will also take place on Friday. The Junior Varsity game starts at 5:45 p.m. and the Varsity game starts at 7:15 p.m.

A Homecoming dance for current OHS students will follow the varsity basketball game until 11:30 p.m. Students must be eligible and have a student ID card to get into the dance. The cost is $5, or $3 with and ASB sticker. There will be no admittance to the dance after 10 p.m.
